How does the Parliament exercise its legislative powers?

A bill, or proposed law, must be passed by both houses of the Parliament (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) to become a law.
Each bill goes through several readings where it is discussed, debated, and possibly amended.
The President must give assent to the bill for it to become a law.
In this way, the Parliament exercises its legislative powers.
